Germany may not supply ammunition purchased in Switzerland to Ukraine. The Swiss Economy Ministry rejected corresponding requests from Germany, it confirmed yesterday. According to the Keystone-SDA news agency, the ministry referred to Switzerland’s neutrality as the reason.

Such a delivery is legally impossible, the ministry was quoted as saying. Exports to countries involved in intensive and prolonged internal or international hostilities are mandatorily prohibited, it said.

The Swiss «Sonntagszeitung» had reported on the rejection of the German request on the ammunition. For this attitude, Switzerland is held partly responsible from Germany for the fact that no German Marder infantry fighting vehicles could be delivered to Ukraine for the fight against the Russian invading forces, the report said. According to the paper, their warheads are equipped with ammunition originating from Switzerland.
